Many friends of the Cardinal and Ukraine gathered at the embassy that day. Representatives of the Ukrainian authorities also congratulated Cardinal Mykola by phone. “We were also pleased to join the sincere greetings for the seventh Ukrainian cardinal in history from the Head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, and Minister Viktor Yelensky, Head of the State Service for National Policy and Freedom of Conscience,” said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Holy See, Mr. Andriy Yurash.

During his speech, Cardinal Bychok reminded those present of the tragedy of the war in Ukraine and the ongoing loss of the nation’s best sons and daughters. At the end of his speech, he wished everyone peace and said words that fill the heart with pride: “Glory to Ukraine!”

As one of the participants of the event shared on his Facebook page: “The appointment of Bishop Mykola Bychok as a cardinal is a significant event for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and our entire country. His activities will help strengthen the voice of Ukraine in the Vatican and in the international arena, which is especially important at this time.”
