Bishop Mykola Bychok met with the Honourable Peter Malinauskas MP, Premier of South Australia
September 29, 2025
As part of his visit to South Australia, on Monday, 29 September, Bishop Mykola Cardinal Bychok, accompanied by clergy from the Melbourne Eparchy in Adelaide, met with the Honourable Peter Malinauskas MP, Premier of South Australia.

Premier Malinauskas is a good friend of Ukraine. Even before the full-scale invasion began, he supported the Ukrainian community, and since February 24, 2022, he has been visiting rallies in support of Ukraine in Adelaide. His support is not formal — it is personal and sincere, as the Premier himself is of Lithuanian descent, and his family also suffered repression under the Soviet regime.
During the meeting, he assured that he would continue to do everything possible to help Ukrainians in South Australia. Thanks to the government’s assistance, many of our nationals have already received permanent residence, access to medical care, and other necessary services.
Bishop Mykola thanked the Premier for his long-standing support of the Ukrainian community in Australia and Ukraine, especially during the full-scale war, and presented Mr. Malinauskas with a copy of the book Persecuted for the Truth, which tells the story of the persecution of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church during the Soviet regime. During the conversation, he briefly shared the tragic pages of our history, in particular about the bishops, priests, monks, and nuns who were deported to Siberia for their faith.
Bishop Mykola also expressed his sincere gratitude to the people of Australia for their support and solidarity, which Ukrainians feel even here, on the other side of the globe.
