The Fifth Sunday after Easter, April 28, was a special day for the parishioners of the Church of Our Lady of Protection in Wayville, as the parish community gathered to share the joy of Christ’s Resurrection at a symbolic Easter lunch, ‘Spilne Sviachene’, and to congratulate Fr. Dr Paul Babie, Assistant Priest in Wayville’s Parish, on the 20th anniversary of his priesthood ordination.

The joint celebration began with a Divine Liturgy led by Fr. Dr Paul Babie in concelebration with the administrator of the Church of Our Lady of Protection, Fr. Taras Gorpynyak, and Deacon Wolodymyr Demchinsky.

In his homily, Fr. Taras Gorpynyak paid special attention to the priesthood and the mission of the clergy and called on the faithful not to forget to pray for all priests. ‘This Sunday, April 28, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the priesthood of Fr. Dr Paul Babie. It is indeed a great responsibility and, at the same time, a great grace to be a priest. Today we are grateful to God for our Fr. Paul, who helps us here in this parish and in the parish in Woodville. He shares with us the talent of a great preacher, the talent of a good friend who is always ready to help us whenever we are in any need.’

After the joint prayer, everyone gathered in the parish hall, where they shared the “spilne sviachene” at the festive table. The attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the life and priestly path of Fr. Paul and to congratulate him once again on this important anniversary. It was a beautiful and memorable day for the entire parish.
