Parish Feast in Melbourne

On Sunday, 28 June, the Cathedral Parish of Saints Peter and Paul in Melbourne celebrated its parish feast. Parishioners, clergy, and guests gathered for the Divine Liturgy and festive celebrations, giving thanks to God for the many blessings received through the life of the parish community.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Very Rev. Fr Simon Ckuj, Protosynkellos of the Melbourne Eparchy, in concelebration with the clergy of the cathedral parish. During the service, prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine, for the unity of the Church, and for all parishioners.
The homily was delivered by Fr Andriy Mykytyuk, Administrator of the Cathedral Parish. Reflecting on the significance of the feast, he reminded the faithful that a parish feast is not merely the commemoration of an important event in the Church calendar, but also an opportunity to thank God for the many graces received through belonging to a parish community. He emphasised that Christian life is always lived in communion with others and that gathering together in prayer and thanksgiving is an essential part of the Christian vocation.
Reflecting on the witness of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the patron saints of the cathedral, Fr Andriy noted that although they came from very different backgrounds, both responded generously to the call of Christ and remained faithful to Him until the end of their lives. Their example of fidelity, proclamation of the Gospel and steadfast faith continues to inspire Christians today.
This year also marks the sixty-third anniversary of the Cathedral Parish. Referring to the ongoing restoration works of the church building, Fr Andriy reminded the faithful that while church buildings can be repaired and renewed, the most important renewal must take place within the hearts of the faithful through an ever-deeper relationship with Christ.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the faithful gathered for a festive meal in the Patriarch Josyf Parish Hall, where they continued the celebration in a spirit of fellowship and gratitude, giving thanks to God for the gift of their parish and for the witness of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
