Homily by Fr. Wolodymyr Kalinecki on the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost
July 6, 2024
Today we reflect on Mary the Mother of God of Perpetual Help. She was especially chosen by God to be the Mother of His Son Jesus. So she had to be very special. As our hearts are acing for what is happening in Ukraine let us keep praying to Mary our Mother of God for the end to this war and for everlasting peace.
Glory be to our Lord God Jesus Christ!
Dear Brothers and Sisters.
Today is the seventh Sunday after Pentecost, where again we come together to praise the Lord and to thank Him for the week that has passed safely and for His gifts of love, peace and joy that were given to us so freely, with love.
Today we also reflect on Mary the Mother of God of Perpetual Help. She was especially chosen by God to be the Mother of His Son Jesus. So she had to be very special. We regard her as Immaculate, that is that she was born free from any sin.
That fullness of Grace was a pure gift from God. Mary could have rejected that gift, but she decided not to. She was a free human being with a free will, just as we all are. Her decision to say yes to God brought about our salvation. “Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done to me according to your word.” (Lk 1:38), was her response to Archangel Gabriel.
So today we ask Mary to pray for us, to pray for peace in our beloved Ukraine that is suffering under such brutal, deadly, unprovoked aggression from russia that is supposed to be a Christian nation.
As our hearts are acing for what is happening in Ukraine let us keep praying to Mary our Mother of God for the end to this war and for everlasting peace.
Let us pray: Hail Mary full of grace. Blessed are you among Women, and Blessed is the fruit of thy Womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
May God bless you all!
