Hierarchical Divine Liturgy in Geelong
December 27, 2023
On December 26, the Second Day of Christmas, Bishop Mykola Bychok, Eparch of Melbourne, visited the Parish of the Protection of the Mother of God in Geelong to share the joy of Christmas with the local faithful.
Bishop Mykola performed the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy in the co-service of Fr. Yuriy Tychenok, parish administrator in Geelong, and deacon Michael Kaminskyj.
In his homily, the bishop paid special attention to the theme of the Christian family. On the feast of the Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos, the Church remembers not only Mary herself, as the mother of the Saviour, but also those people who were closest to Christ and the Mother of God, in particular the Holy Family. “We know very well that the family is the basis and foundation of society. It is in the family that the foundations of personality begin to be laid, and a person is formed. Unfortunately, today we see that Christian families are facing a great threat because, in certain situations, the concept of a true family is replaced. That is why, on this day, we should direct our gaze to the Holy Family, which should become an example for us to follow.”
In conclusion, Bishop Mykola addressed the faithful in Geelong with an encouragement to pray for good Christian families. “A good Christian family is the flower of society. This is exactly the kind of good seed that is needed, especially for our church here in Australia. Because a good Christian family is the future of Church of Christ,” stressed Bishop Mykola.
