On Sunday, January 12, the Parish of St. John the Baptist in Perth, Western Australia, held its annual Christmas Carol Night, bringing the community together to celebrate the Nativity of Christ.

Christmas Carol Night brought community together in Perth

The event was opened by Fr. Ihor Holovko, administrator of the Perth parish, who greeted the parishioners, wished them God’s blessings for the New Year, and led a prayer for peace and victory in Ukraine.

The programme was prepared by Suzanna Prushynska and MC was Maria Hosja. The festive evening showcased Ukrainian Christmas traditions and carols. Highlights included a dramatic nativity scene, carols performed by youth from Plast and CYM, performances by the ukulele band led by Suzanna Prushynska, a duet by Fr. Ihor and Anna Kani, unique carols by the Korzeba family, and the popular “Shchedrivka,” performed by Suzanna Prushynska. The evening concluded with a performance by the Echoes of Ukraine Choir, conducted by Volodymyr Liashchenko. A particularly touching moment was the prayer “God Is Great, One,” performed by Margo Chyzhma.

At the close of the event, Fr. Ihor expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the organisers and participants, as well as the volunteers who prepared the BBQ enjoyed by attendees after the programme.

The event raised $1,710 to support Vladyslav and Alice, the family of Olga Tikhanova, who tragically lost her life in Perth. Thank you for your generosity. If you would like to contribute further to this worthy cause, please contact Fr. Ihor Holovko.

The annual Christmas Carol Night was once again a meaningful opportunity for the community in Perth to come together and celebrate the miracle of Christmas.
