Blessing of new wings in Kalyna Care
April 8, 2024
On Saturday, April 6, Bishop Mykola Bychok, Eparch of Melbourne, blessed the newly built premises in the Ukrainian home for the elderly, Kalyna Care.
Home for the elderly Kalyna Care is a not-for-profit aged care organisation that provides care services for the elderly based on Ukrainian heritage and traditions. For 40 years, this project of the Ukrainian community has been hosting not only elderly Ukrainians but also people from countries such as Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Croatia, and Serbia, as well as all those who appreciate the European way of life.
Recently, the construction of two new wings, symbolically named “Pine” and “Poplar”, was completed in the Kalyna Care building. On the occasion of the opening of these newly constructed premises, the management of Kalyna Care organised a festive dinner and invited Bishop Mykola Bychok to bless them. At this event, the Bishop was accompanied by Deacon Michael Zylan, Chancellor of the Melbourne Eparchy, as well as priests who provided and continue to provide spiritual support to the residents of Kalyna Care: Father Andriy Mykytyuk, administrator of the Cathedral in Melbourne, and Fr. Ruslan Babii, administrator of the parish in Ardeer.
In his speech to those present, Bishop Mykola emphasised the importance of vocation and its realization. “Each of us is vocated to something, and any vocation is very important. Our task is to fulfill our vocation in our lives. When we talk about Kalyna Care — it is a very special and responsible vocation to be close to older people, to be this sign and light of hope in their lives. Because they expect help from you, expect a smile, and expect support and appropriate care.”
Bishop Mykola congratulated the managers, employees, and residents of Kalyna Care on the opening of the new premises and blessed everyone present for their good deeds.
